Dear friends and supporters,

I continue to express my deep gratitude and thanks for your prayers and support. The Ugandan rebels, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), continue to perpetuate hostilities and violence on civilians in the territory of Dungu and in other villages in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The displaced people, as well as the local people, are starving.

According to a recent U.N. report, over the last six months the Ugandan rebels have killed about 1,200 Congolese civilians and abducted about 1,500 adults and children across Northeastern Congo. Local sources indicate that most of those abducted were children. Since 1990, the Ugandan rebels have taken as many as 20,000 children for use as soldiers, porters and “wives.”  The brutal attacks on civilians have driven about 300,000 Congolese from their homes over the last six months and many of them have been without food and shelter since September 2008.

The family members rescued from Dungu in December 2008 are doing well. The small boy named Toniko – one of the three orphans – came down with malaria two weeks ago. He is doing much better this week. Despite the trauma of war and suffering, the children went back to school – attending local schools in Ariwara – and did very well. They are now on vacation.

Three weeks ago, the family members were forced to vacate the house we had been renting for them. They have relocated, but are running short of food. So far, we do not have enough money to provide shelter for the family members in Ariwara. Since January 2009, we have received contributions totaling $2,530 for Dungu Relief Mission. This money is being used to provide food, rent and healthcare. Please continue to lift up the suffering people of Dungu and family members in your prayers.

As you know, all contributions for this project are tax deductible. Checks can be payable to “Philadelphia Presbytery, PCA” and mailed to
