Displaced civilians on a hillside
Central Africa is a region whose people and resources are increasingly devastated by conflict. Since the Rwandan Genocide in 1994, Hutu rebels have spread throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) killing civilians in masses. Lead by Joseph Kony, Ugandan rebels known as the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) continue to abduct, rape and kill people, destroy property, and loot the villages of DRC, RCA, and the South of Sudan. Burundi, DRC, Central Africa Republic, Rwanda, Southern Sudan, and Uganda are among the most troubled countries in the region. These people are devastated by war, hunger, poverty, and diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, Ebola, tuberculosis, and sleeping disease.
